The think tank of the Department of Design that transforms advanced academic research into convergences of innovation

Hi, I'm Paolo Volontè, a sociologist working at the Design Department of the Politecnico di Milano, and today I took with me this strange object with a slightly high-tech, but also very low-tech design.

I’ve just come back from Montreal, Canada, where I was a professor at the École de design at UQAM from 2005 onwards. I taught History of Graphic Design, Typography and Type Design, Exhibition Design and Critical Design.

My name is Stefana Broadbent, I have recently joined the Department of Design as an Associate Professor. I am a social scientist. I have a PhD in Cognitive Science from Edinburgh University but have done all my professional and academic career as a Digital Anthropologist. In fact before joining Politecnico I lectured in digital Anthropology at UCL in London.

After 32 years of teaching in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. I bring to the Politecnico a passion for teaching and thinking about design and the making of design.

Hello everyone. My name is Maurizio Bruglieri and I am an Associate Professor in Operational Research in the Design Department. The object that I have brought with me today is my smartphone. Who knows how many times you have used it to obtain information on the best route to get to a destination, for instance in a part of the city that you don’t know very well. I am responsible for the magic that enables to find exactly the shortest one.
