February 19, 2024, 9:30 am to 6 pm, Sala dei Milanesi, Archivio della Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, Piazza Duomo, 20, Milan
In addition to the exhibition "Alle origini del sacro", which can be visited until June 30, 2024 at the Fondazione Francesco Somaini Scultore, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano will host a study day to explore the dimension of the sacred and the master's work in the field of religious art, promoted by the Department of History, Archaeology and History of Art of the Università del Sacro Cuore di Milano and the Department of Design.
A cultural opportunity for reflection and discussion, with the participation of professors and scholars who have made Somaini's production in the field of religious art in existing and new buildings a privileged subject of research.
The theme of the "sacred" in Francesco Somaini's work, which animates his sculptures, extends in the commissions he received to mosaic interventions and designs for stained glass windows. In its originality, it stems from a reflection on the processes of generation, transformation, death and rebirth, which are at the center of his plastic research, based on the desire to affirm a dimension of vitality within matter.
Professor Emeritus Fulvio Irace and Associate Professor Anna Mazzanti will speak at the Study Day. For the full program, please see the attached poster.
To attend, please register by February 15 at fondazione.somaini@gmail.com.
The event will be streamed live on the Duomo Milano TV YouTube channel.
