Open Cometa is a platform that meets the guidelines of Open innovation in which project ideas developed by students within the university Metaproject course can be developed in an Open Source perspective to follow up on the needs of associations and caregivers.
The intent is thus to broaden the scope of the COmeta project to generate a platform capable of hosting more and more projects and conversations around the topic of autism, creating new connections and new value.
The Open Cometa platform aims to raise awareness on Autism issues by giving access to the pool of projects generated over the years in the COmeta Metaproject Lab also by leveraging the potential of Digital Manufacturing. The projects on the site will be accompanied by all the materials necessary for their production, which can be done independently or by making use of the FabLab network and/or artisans. The projects will be managed by exploiting the potential of the Creative Common license and are designed to be replicable and accessible.

The portal aims to become a reference point where one can find products dedicated to the needs of autistic individuals and others and obtain information on how to make them in an accessible and supported way.

Starting from these goals, the main features of the platform are:

  • an archive of projects that can be realized with technologies and tools related to digital fabrication;
  • a reference community on the topic of autism powered by a dedicated forum in which to share ideas, opinions and specific needs/experiences;
  • a space in which to share new projects and become part of a network of knowledge and dissemination.
