WasToy is a Project of Relevant National Interest (PRIN 2022) aimed at combining circular bioeconomy practices with educational goals. The project's objective is to create sustainable and renewable toys using recycled materials, introducing children to the principles of sustainability and circular economy.

Key objectives and stages of the project:

  • Utilizing organic waste from the agri-food chain to produce bio-based materials, contributing to sustainable development and effective waste management.
  • Conducting a mapping activity of the Italian territory to establish connections between organic waste and local agri-food chains, promoting scenarios of industrial symbiosis.
  • Designing circular toys with sensory features and thematic games to educate children about the food supply chain, circular economy, and the importance of materials derived from waste.
  • Instilling a culture of sustainability in future generations, with particular attention to Made in Italy products.
  • Demonstrating the potential of upcycling waste into valuable resources and sustainable toys, promoting a more conscious approach to the toy industry.

To transform waste properties into innovative materials for toy production, the project's approach is deeply interdisciplinary and combines design, chemistry, and business expertise.
