Mariana Ciancia

PhD, she is a researcher at the Design Department, Politecnico di Milano and lecturer at the MSc in Communication Design and MSc in Digital and Interaction Design (School of Design, PoliMi). 
Her research and teaching activities (national and international) have as their main focus Communication Design, with particular attention to the design processes, tools, and production of narrative-based artefacts (digital, physical and hybrid) in a media ecosystem characterized by digital transformation.
 
Visiting Scholar at the Media Lab of Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland), since 2014, she has been Visiting Professor at international universities and institutes, including Elisava. Escola Superior de Disseny i Enginyeria (Barcelona, Spain), GD Goenka University (Gurgaon, India) and UMA. Universidade da Madeira. Faculdade de Artes e Humanidades (Madeira, Portugal).
 
In addition to her teaching activities at the School of Design (from 2016 to the present) and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (2016-2019), since 2014, she has been a lecturer at university consortia (POLI.design, ALMED, CEFRIEL, MIP) on topics related to communication issues (brand strategies, storytelling, and digital communication).  
 
She is deputy director of the Master in Brand Communication - Designing, building, and managing a brand by POLI.design in collaboration with UNA. She is also a member of the IMAGISLab research group that deals with storytelling, communication strategies and audiovisual language, working collaboratively in various contexts and experimenting with processes, interactive experiences and expressive forms for branding and social innovation.
 
National and international publications include books, book chapters, journal articles, conference proceedings on transmedia phenomena, storytelling, interactive narratives, and audiovisual artefacts.
